RFC 2882 and message id
[ Reply ]
I am building an application to process the email messages using the message-id of every message. I need to know when this message-id is available, when not.
RFC 2822 says "Though optional, every essage SHOULD have a "Message-ID:""
I got "yes" answer from Microsoft guy, Exchange server generates message id when sending out.
How about other server in today market, like notes, sendmail, do they generate a global unique message-id for every message?
Thanks very much.

It appears as if this problem is unique to Earthlink. I called them on it and they said it was a Microsoft problem. I don't think so.

I built a Distribution List, then right-clicked to send a message, and got the same 500 rfc2822 response. Can anyone give advice on how to send a lot of emails without laboriously writing each one individually? Thanks!

unique message id generation regd
[ Reply ]
Dear Sir, When a mail is sent from a MTA after accepting it from MUA it generates a unique id for each mail. Who generates this and what algorithm is used to generate this and how to link this id to a database. What happens when sendmail service is restarted to avoid duplication of ids generated

I used to be able to send Bcc: too and now that I've switched to DSL (or? is it) earthlink, I can't send it any more. I also did what you suggested, and deleted the message and rewrote it and sent it again and THE SAME PROBLEM occurred. I did not have the good fortune you did that it now worked! Any other updates or ideas? Prior to DSL/earthlink everything was GREAT!!! Also, what about--do I have to use Plain TEXT or can I still use HTML as I have been accustomed to? Thanks. Becky

Just add a name in the To: field (I use my own email address). Then it works just fine.

Got earthlink support to help me on the 550 RFC2822 problem. It was caused by a bad email address in the group I was sending to. Find the bad email, solve the problem in group mails.

Error Msg
[ Reply ]
My Norton Antivirus will not allow me to send new text, forward or reply to messages. When I do I get the following message from Norton and do not know how or what to do.
NORTON ANTIVIRUS WAS UNABLE TO SEND YOUR E-MAIL MESSAGE BECAUSE YOUR MAIL SERVER REJECTED THE MESSAGE: 550 YOUR MESSAGE DOES NOT CONFORM TO RFC 2822 STANDARD.
Any suggestion other than Add/Remove Norton and lose my security?
Thanks in advance !!!

RE: Error Msg

guys, if you get this error again, just make sure that here are no typos, unnecessay spaces or characters in the "to" field, even the cc's and the bcc's.if you're trying to send it to a mailing list, you might need it edit it. this is basically because of a typo/spaces on email addresse you are sending emails to.try it!

RE RE: Error Msg

Please help...
I am getting the RFC2822 error, not on my home computer but only on my Treo 650...preceded by the error 550. I never got this problem until a week or two ago and am unsure of any changes in my system.
Is there a surefire way to eliminate this? I have been following the thread but don't see any 'for sure' methods to avoid this problem. I do use earthlink...
Thank you for your prompt replies...

As dumb as this answer sounds, you have to find out what is wrong with the message and fix it.
This could be anything from using naked carriage returns or line feeds, to no properly encoding characters, to breaking headers, to lines being to long.
Without actually seeing the source of the message, it's hard to tell how to fix the problem.
Cheers! Dave
